PASTORALISM AND COMMUNITY

BACKGROUND/ HISTORY

Freds Pass Reserve, established in 1977 is approximately 31 kms South from Darwin City. Set in picturesque surrounds the reserve provides facilities for sporting groups and community Groups.

Each May, the reserve is home to the Freds Pass Rural Show.

2012 will see the Show celebrate its 34th year – a milestone for an event which commenced as a school fete.

The Freds Pass Rural Show is an annual event providing a regional focus on productivity, enterprise and community.

The aim of the Show is to provide a forum to showcase the diverse range of industries including pastoralism, agriculture, horticulture, mining and manufacture as well as to provide an opportunity for community groups to hold their annual fundraising.

The Show is a benefit to many community organisations who assist to ensure that everyone has a wonderful time at the Show. These include the Lions Club, Bees Creek and Durack Primary Schools and Howard Springs Scout Group to name a few.

With over 200 exhibitors and 20,000+ through the gates in 2011, the Show continues to be a much anticipated event on the Territory Calendar.
